Homework
- An average of between 40-50 minutes Monday to Thursday.
- Please ensure all homework is done to a high standard and sign their homework diary to confirm this.
- Your child’s reading would greatly benefit from a parent or guardian listening to their English and Irish reading each night.
- Use ‘Look, Cover, Write and Check’ for spellings.
Additional Programmes and Initiatives
- Cycle Right training – Two experienced instructors visit fifth class and teach the rules of the road as well as how to cycle safely on the roads. This is a skill for a life which will hopefully stand to them for years to come.
- Accelerated Reader – children are expected to read in school for 20 mins and at home for 20 mins each day. A target is set for each student and it helps teachers to monitor progress.

Swimming – takes place every autumn for 6 weeks.

STEAM
- Children in fifth class have the opportunity to train in a Learning Squad to mentor other classes in the area of STEAM.
- Children undertake workshops in robotics and engineering.
- In fifth class, the children work with iPads, Sphero robots and Lego WeDo.
- Children take part in the INTEL Mini Scientist Awards.
Student’s Council
Children from 5th class have the opportunity to represent their class on the school council. This allows the class to have a say on school matters.
