The Student Council

The student council was set up in Clarecastle National School to give children in the school a voice. The campaign took place in May 2015.

Four years on it has gone from strength to strength. Our new students council for the school year 2019/2020has doubled in size with 2 representatives from each class from 3rd to 6th.

We have drafted the New Students Council Constitution where each new member is aware of rules, procedures and expected behaviour.

The Council had their  second fundraiser last May and raised nearly 500 euro. Children engaged in a Crazy Sock Day ! The Council funded the ice cream van as a treat for all the boys and girls, purchased some KNEX towards our STEAM initiative, and still have a little bit of money left over.

The Council meets once every 3 weeks to discuss all ideas submitted from each class for the agenda. The council are a voice for all students and take any ideas suggested to them seriously.

They are engaging in Learning Squads and more recently are learning about the process of making a clear informed decision.

Mr. Moloney also attends meetings from time to time when the council have ideas that they would like to discuss with him.
